Steelhead are biting all over the East Coast.  Large Brown Trout are also being caught in many Great Lakes tributary streams.  Locally, wild brown trout should be spawning or finishing up their spawn.  Great flows on all our streams thanks to the abundant rainfall.  Get those orders in for your steelhead flies.  Turkey vacation and Christmas vacation will be here before you know it.  Make sure your fly boxes are stuffed with flies that will get the job done.

I do not like the extremely hot weather.  Managed to fish a few times in July.  So far, panfish bite has been great, smallie bite picked up considerably and Zoe managed to land a 28 inch Channel Catfish.  Flathead Catfish should be done with the spawn.  Lower sections of approved trout waters have been fishing great.  Fly rod or spinning, does not matter.  Topwater bite is pretty good too.

Weather is still iffy, but the trout are willing to play.  Evening and early morning bites have been pretty good.  Sulphur, Cahill, Caddis along with Slate Drake are having the fish looking up.  Nymphing mid-day has been productive.  Bass season is upon us!  Flatheads are starting to get caught on the Skuke.  Lime and Yellow Sally stoneflies are out and about.  If the fish will not rise to your dry fly, change up and nymph!  Don't waste your time trying to force feed them dry flies.  Drag some nymphs and get into some fish.

After the rains a few weeks ago, bug activity has slowed considerably.  Saw a few Quill Gordons and a Hendrickson a few days ago.  Plenty of Black Caddis, Olive Caddis and Craneflies out and about.  Not much working the surface.  Saw a very light colored bug escape the water yesterday.  Lilacs are in bloom along with many wild flowers.  Bait guys have been doing well and I fished with Butter Worms the other night and one morning and slaughtered the trout. Bite after bite.

Hendrickson Mayfly spinners are out and about.  Quill Gordon were found hatching yesterday early evening.  Cranefly, Little Black Stonefly and various caddis have been seen on the water.  Hopefully Spring is here for good and no more 30 degree mornings.  Yesterday evening the fish were looking topside.  The last week, that has not been the case.  As the temps rise and Spring stabilizes, we should get see hatches fall into some sense of normalcy.  If there are no bugs in the air and you want some topwater action, go with a caddis and don't be afraid to skitter it.  Sulphur and Cahill will be here shortly!

Last few days have seen Hendrickson Mayfly hatching.  Great time to fish either emergers or adults that match.  Weather has been nice the last few days, but this morning--cold and drizzly so look for Blue-Winged Olives to out and about.  Caddis have on the water also along with Spring Blue Quill.  Fishing live bait is always a great way to enjoy our recently stocked trout.  Stickbaits, spinners and Trout Magnets all have been putting fish on the end of the line.  Never leave home without a bag of Berkely Trout Worms or Power Bait.  Good luck and enjoy the early goings of Trout Season.
