Salmon River is polluted with fish. Steelhead are starting to show up. Check out my auctions on Ebay for the best Salmon and Steelhead flies. Catfishing should prove productive on the Skuke. Most local trout streams are very low. Next rain should have the fish biting. Almost spawn time for our Wild Brown Trout and Native Brook Trout. Halloween is around the corner, as Garfield loves to shout: Candy, Candy, Candy, Candy, Candy.

Salmon are in the river and last few weeks were out of the ordinary for September. The warmer temps will have the fish putting the brakes on. But, fish top to bottom. Many Death Stonefly orders have been filled and the feedback for the past few years has been outstanding. Check out a few customers who hit Pulaski and managed a few fish The below fish all took a Death Stonefly Nymph. Pink, Red/Black and Zombie.

The heat wave is upon us. Trout fishing was superb into last week. But the heat will put an end to that. Hit the rivers and lower stretches of trout streams. Smallies and Pannies will be waiting there for you. River fishing for channel and flathead catfish has been productive. Schuylkill River has a great flow. Fish early and fish late. The mid-day sun is killer. Turn on the AC and tie some flies.

Fishing has been very good thanks to the wonderful amount of rain we have received this Spring. Summer heat has been killer the past few days. Trout are still rising in the evening and sporadically throughout the day if a beetle, cricket, ant or hopper falls into the water. Fishing with creek captured minnows and crayfish will put fish on the end of the line. Flathead catfish should be grouped up to spawn. Big gills or rock bass are the best baits to use. Channel catfish will pounce on dead minnows, chicken livers or shrimp. Keep an eye on Mulberry trees. Carp will gather underneath the overhanging branches and devour all the berries that fall in. Globugs in chartreuse or purple will fool a few fish. Bass season opens this weekend. Get out there and FISH. Be a river-rat!!

Plenty of bugs in the air the last few weeks. Mostly it was Cahills--pink, cream and light. Sulphurs are out and about-- yellow and creamy white. There are still BWOs around, various caddis and just starting to see the Slate Drake mayfly. Emergers and soft-hackled flies have been the ticket. Don't be afraid to drop a small PT off your dry fly. Grease your leader to keep those emergers just under the surface. Don't be afraid to fish in the rain or as the creeks are rising. The fish will put on the feed bag. Weather is still as unpredictable as ever. The Green Drakes are just starting on Penns Creek. They are down low and move upstream about 2 miles each day--but I always get different reports on the distance. You can find more photos and reports on the 2Bonthewater Facebook page. If you are looking to purchase flies, please give me a shout. You can check out Vin's Bug Shoppe on Facebook for plenty of fly pictures--both tied and alive!
April 14, 2017 -- Dry fly season is in full swing. Hendos and Quill Gordons are finishing up. Fish will still respond to them, along with BWO and Caddis. Sulphurs will be here shortly. Swinging or drifting soft-hackles in skinny water is a good idea as the fish are on the nymphs. Penns Creek is in great shape and the bugs are all over the place. A buddy said he tagged a WHOPPER of rainbow on a Hendo dry over the past weekend. Look for March Browns to be out and about on Penns Creek. Stop in and see Bruce Fisher at Penns Creek Angler. Tell him Vinny sent ya. Pick up a Total Outdoors wristband while you are in the shop. Total Outdoors does many VETERAN programs throughout the year and is a worthy cause to support.

April 12, 2017 -- Trout season is in full swing. Creeks are stocked with fish and many anglers are having success. The weather is still unpredictable. Bugs are on the move and the fish are taking notice. Fishing wet flies or emergers will most certianly have the fish biting. The simple wooly bugger with an egg dropped off the bugger will work well. I posted a few fly pics on the Facebook Page for 2Bonthewater and Vin's Bug Shoppe. These wet flies have been doing well on stocked waters as well as on wild trout waters. The Berkley 3-inch Trout worm in Pink and Orange have been gonzo. Flows are great at the moment so make the most of it. Hendrickson, Quill Gordon, Spring Blue Quill and various caddis are on the water.
Feb 01, 2017 -- Not much fishing going on as Mother Nature can't decide if it is Winter or Spring. Warmer days will have fish taking flies off the surface. BWOs, midges and Little Black Stoneflies will probably be on the water. So close to Spring, so get your gear ready. Another season with nearly NO ICE FISHING. Not sure if we will get the deep freeze needed for some ice to fish on. Get those fly orders in. Get out there and fish. Head to Central, PA and fish some Spring Creeks or limestome influenced streams. Scuds and Griffith's Gnat will help get the job done. Throwing Meaty Treats this time of the year is another tactic to employ.
